The new information resource systematizes eco-innovations and can serve as a basis for strategic programs in the field of climate and environment.
On July 8, the 66th series of meetings of the Assemblies of Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) began in Geneva, Switzerland. During the opening ceremony, WIPO Director General Daren Tang delivered a report on key global trends in the IP sphere. He paid particular attention to the role of IP in the development of sustainable solutions and green technologies, emphasizing that innovation must work for the benefit of the planet and future generations.
This topic is extremely relevant for Ukraine, given the irreversible destructive consequences of the war on our ecosystem. However, human ingenuity and the ability to overcome challenges give grounds for cautious optimism. After all, new ideas are being implemented to create practical solutions that protect the environment.
An important step towards this goal is the creation by UANIPIO experts of a national information resource in the field of green technologies – IP Catalog Green Tech UA (Ukrainian Green Technology Catalog).
This service is based on the IPC Green Inventory classification developed by the WIPO IPC Committee of Experts, which allows identifying patents belonging to Environmentally Sound Technologies (ESTs).
Unlike the global registry, the Ukrainian IP Catalog Green Tech UA covers only those applications and patents for inventions that directly relate to seven main areas:
The general scope of the Catalog covers applications and registered inventions since 2013, which is due to both the current term of legal protection (20 years) and the start of the active phase of the WIPO GREEN global initiative in the same year.
The catalog will be updated on a regular basis. It can serve as an indicator of the dynamics of national technological potential in the field of environmentally oriented solutions, as well as a basis for the development of strategic programs to support innovation in the field of climate and the environment.
