During the 66th series of meetings of the Assemblies of Member States of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), currently taking place in Geneva (Switzerland), a report on the activities of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center was discussed.
During the discussion, the Ukrainian delegation, which includes representatives of the Ministry of Economy and the Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovations (UANIPIO/IP Office), made an official statement. Ukraine highly appreciated the work of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center, expressed interest in further cooperation, and welcomed the expansion of the Center’s portfolio, in particular the increase in the number of cases considered and the expansion of thematic coverage.
Deputy Director of UANIPIO Vladyslav Bilotskyi, speaking on behalf of the Ukrainian delegation, outlined ADR as one of the priority areas of activity for the national IP office, noting:
“In Ukraine, we are actively promoting alternative dispute resolution as a strategic tool to strengthen IP enforcement and reduce litigation burden. Under the WIPO-Ukraine Memorandum of Understanding, the Ukrainian IP Office continues to operate and develop its IP Mediation Centre based on WIPO best practices”
Ukraine reported significant progress in this area in the following areas:
- the Center recruited 18 leading mediators with experience in intellectual property and business mediation (according to the IP Mediators Registers of July 2025);
- launching a practical simulation of the case “Poet vs. Blogger,” which presented a staged mediation in the field of IP and demonstrated its main stages and advantages (October 2024);
- Successful completion of the first IP mediation in Ukraine between a large agricultural holding and a creative agency (November 2024): this case became a benchmark for future users of the system;
- Implementation of the nationwide YouTube project, “Conflict Without Escalation: The Art of Mediation,” during which, in cooperation with the Dobrosud Legal Association, 19 short educational videos were created with the participation of judges, dedicated to the legal and procedural aspects of mediation in Ukraine (April-July 2025).
“These developments contribute to the growing trust in mediation and demonstrate Ukraine’s commitment to building a culture of dialogue and IP rights-respecting innovation.”, – emphasized Vladyslav Bilotskyi.
