The second day of the working visit of the Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovations (UANIPIO) management to the Republic of Latvia was devoted to institutional meetings and strategic dialogue on the future of intellectual property.
In Riga, Olena Orliuk, Director of the UANIPIO and Liubov Maidanyk, Deputy Director, held a number of informative meetings covering key areas: from European integration processes to preservation of cultural heritage and implementation of modern approaches to copyright protection.
During the meeting with the management of the Patent Office of the Republic of Latvia, the participants discussed the mechanisms of European integration measures support in the field of intellectual property and coordination of actions on the eve of the 66th series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO.

Olena Orliuk, Director of the UANIPIO, shared the Ukrainian experience of drafting the National Strategy for the Development of Intellectual Property:
“Ukraine has consciously chosen a strategic approach to the IP sphere development. A strategy is a document that defines a clear action plan that brings together the state, professional community, business, science, inventors, innovators and creative industries around a common vision”.
The Director of the UANIPIO expressed gratitude to the Latvian colleagues for their interest and openness to dialogue, as there are still many important joint steps ahead.
In addition, the management of the Ukrainian IP Office met with representatives of the Ministry of Culture of Latvia to discuss approaches to supporting national content, preserving cultural heritage, developing copyright and implementing initiatives in the field of cultural diplomacy.

During the discussion, special attention was paid to the implementation of European copyright law, measures to support creative industries and cultural diplomacy, cooperation with the EUIPO and prospects for the development of the EUIPO Copyright Knowledge Center and the CopyrightView platform.
“Creative industries are a powerful engine of the economy and self-expression. For Ukraine, it is important not only to harmonize copyright legislation, but also to build sustainable partnerships that will allow us to implement joint initiatives, share experiences and develop cultural diplomacy. Latvia is one of the best examples of a systematic approach in this area. For our part, as countries with more than 20 years of experience in public copyright services, we are open to discussing best practices in this area”, – noted Liubov Maidanyk.
