Conference ASTP 2026: IP Office Strengthens Ukraine’s Integration into the European Technology Transfer Ecosystem

Members of the Coordinating Council of the Ukrainian Technology Transfer Alliance (UTTA) participated in the ASTP Annual Conference 2026 in Bucharest (Romania), one of the key international events in the field of technology transfer and the commercialisation of research results.

The annual conference of the Association of European Science and Technology Transfer Professionals (ASTP) is a leading international professional community that has for more than 25 years brought together specialists and shaped modern approaches to the development of technology transfer and knowledge commercialisation in Europe and worldwide.

In May 2026, the conference brought together over 350 participants, representatives of more than 200 institutions, and over 70 international experts and speakers, creating a platform for the exchange of practical solutions in the field of innovation policy and the development of innovation ecosystems.

During the event, the Ukrainian delegation presented its experience in developing the national innovation ecosystem, initiatives in the field of technology transfer, as well as the activities of universities, science parks, Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs), and digital platforms supporting innovation.

Among the participants from Ukraine were:

    • Olga Kronda, Head of the Innovation Development Department at the Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovations (IP Office),

    • Maryna Zenova, Consultant to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine on public-private partnerships and cooperation between higher education institutions and the real sector of the economy within the framework of the World Bank’s UIHERP project,

    • Oleksandr Litvinov, Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation at Odesa National Economic University,

    • Natalia Hrebennyk, Head of the Odesa Center for the Transfer of Knowledge and Technologies,

    • Yurii Danko, Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation at Sumy National Agrarian University.

«The development of effective technology transfer is a key element of Ukraine’s European integration process, as it ensures sustainable links between scientific research, innovation and economic development. At the same time, the modern global innovation agenda goes beyond the traditional understanding of technology transfer as a mechanism for interaction between science and business. Increasingly, attention is focused on knowledge valorisation as a systematic process of transforming the results of scientific research and innovation into social and economic value. In this model, intellectual property serves as one of the key instruments enabling this transformation and forming the foundation for sustainable innovation-driven development», – noted Olga Kronda.

The Ukrainian delegation’s participation in ASTP 2026 marked an important step towards strengthening international cooperation, expanding professional networks and integrating the Ukrainian innovation ecosystem into the European technology transfer landscape.

During the conference, the second edition of the Handbook for National Knowledge Transfer Associations, developed by the National Associations Advisory Committee (NAAC), was presented.

This handbook draws on the experience of 40 national associations from across Europe and other regions of the world, covering topics such as governance, funding models, training approaches, and strategies for engagement with policymakers. Particular attention is devoted to the development of forward-looking ecosystems and the strengthening of professional communities. The practical value of the handbook is reinforced by real-life examples, feedback, and lessons learned shared directly by the NAAC community.

The Ukrainian Technology Transfer Alliance was featured in the updated edition of the handbook for the first time. For Ukraine, this signifies the successful integration of the national association into the European ecosystem, opening broad opportunities for cooperation, mutual learning, and the exchange of experience with the other 39 national associations representing 32 countries worldwide.
